KUALA LUMPUR: Despite opening higher at the trading bell, mild profit taking activities sent the key index lower on Thursday.

The 30-stock index closed down 0.95 of a point to 1,465.93 after moving between its intraday high of 1,469.12 and low of 1,461.78.

Market breadth turned negative as losers overpowered the gainers on a ratio of 567-to-370 stocks. Traded volumes stood at 3.19 billion shares worth RM1.83bil.

Leading the losers on the key index was PETRONAS Dagangan, which lost 36 sen to RM21.98. PETRONAS Chemicals eased 14 sen to RM8.41, PETRONAS Gas declined eight sen to RM16.52 and RHB Bank fell six sen to RM5.64.

PPB Group rose 28 sen to RM17.28, Nestle added 20 sen to RM135.20, Hong Leong Bank gained 10 sen to RM20.44 and Digi climbed 10 sen to RM3.85.

Meanwhile, Pineapple Resources added 28 sen to RM1.11, Batu Kawan rose 28 sen to RM20.88 and Kotra gained 27 sen to RM5.69.

Elsewhere in Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index ended down 0.4% and South Korea Kospi fell 0.49%.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 3.38%, China’s CSI300 rose 0.02% and Singapore’s Straits Times Index advanced 0.33%.
